USB Chargers – Volts and Amps – Can anyone help?

I have had to buy a UK charger for a piece of equipment that came from America. I have managed to get one that was advertised to do the task from ebay.

The charger that came with the kit was configured for the US type socket, (i.e. twin flat pins), so not really of any use unless I use a shaver adaptor.

The charger that was supplied with the kit is output rated at 5.0V and 1.0A

The charger I have bought off ebay is output rated at 5.0V and 550mA.

What is the worst thing that can happen if I use the new charger that I have bought?
Please guys don’t use abbreviations!

I’m no expert and I don’t know what they mean.

So, when anyone else answers, please tell me what PSU means.

PSU = Power Supply Unit

the charger you bought is under powered.
It MAY work, it will take the battery longer to charge.

the real answer is based on the question; how much current does the device actually require.

MOST chargers are set up for world wide use, they use a type of power supply that is light weight… this allows for 100v to 240v at 50Hz to 60Hz.
Look at the plate on the power supply for the detailed voltage and current values.
